A woman’s casual night out turned into a chilling crime investigation after police uncovered the true identity of the man she had met through a dating app.
According to investigators, the woman matched with a seemingly charming stranger on Tinder. He offered to take her to dinner, made friendly conversation, and never raised any red flags. But while the date appeared perfectly normal on the surface, detectives say the man was already a wanted suspect in a homicide case across the state.
The break came when a routine patrol officer recognized the suspect’s vehicle parked outside the restaurant. Bodycam footage shows officers quietly coordinating outside before approaching the couple as they exited.
The woman appears confused as officers suddenly swarm her date and take him into custody. She repeatedly asks what’s happening — only to be told that the man she had spent the evening with was the prime suspect in an active murder investigation.
“It didn’t feel real,” she later told detectives. “He didn’t seem dangerous at all.”
Police say the arrest ended a weeklong search for the suspect, who had been evading authorities by traveling through different cities and using dating apps to blend in.
The woman was unharmed, but shaken — grateful officers intervened before the night took a darker turn.
Authorities are reminding the public to take extra precautions when meeting people from online platforms, and to always trust instincts when something feels “off,” even if the person appears perfectly normal.
