How Refusing To Pay A Ticket Turned Into A Felony
What began as a simple traffic ticket spiraled into a full-blown felony case after one driver refused to pay, ignored multiple warnings, and pushed officers to the breaking point, according to police.
Authorities say the driver was originally cited for a minor violation—nothing more than a routine fine. But instead of handling it, he allegedly tossed the ticket, skipped his court date, and continued driving as though nothing had happened.
That’s when things escalated.
A warrant was issued, and weeks later officers located the man during a late-night patrol. Bodycam footage shows the suspect growing agitated as officers explained the outstanding warrant. Instead of cooperating, he tried to speed off—nearly hitting an officer in the process.
Police initiated a short chase that ended after the suspect lost control and ran into a ditch. When officers approached, he continued resisting, forcing them to take him into custody.
What started as a small fine has now turned into a stack of serious charges, including felony evading, reckless endangerment, and assault on a peace officer.
Investigators say the entire situation could have been avoided with one simple action: just paying the ticket.
