A late-night DUI stop turned into a bizarre and dramatic chase after an intoxicated Tesla driver refused to pull over—only to break down in tears and beg for her father once officers finally caught up to her, police say.
The incident began when deputies noticed a Tesla swerving across lanes and nearly hitting a median. When they attempted a traffic stop, the driver instead accelerated, letting the vehicle’s autopilot take over as she sped down the highway.
Bodycam footage shows the Tesla weaving erratically while deputies pursued with lights and sirens. After several minutes, the vehicle finally slowed and drifted onto a side road, where officers boxed it in.
But the driver’s attitude shifted instantly.
Once officers approached the window, the woman—slurring her words and reeking of alcohol—tried to talk her way out of the situation, insisting she “wasn’t even driving” and that the car “handles itself.”

When officers told her she was under arrest, she broke down sobbing, repeatedly crying out for her father and insisting he would “fix everything.”
He did not.
She was taken into custody on charges including DUI, fleeing and eluding, and reckless driving. Officers say the Tesla’s cameras captured the entire incident, providing even more evidence against her.
Deputies later said the situation could have ended far worse, especially given her level of intoxication and reliance on autopilot at high speeds.
