Drunk Driver Slams Into Cop Car During Traffic Stop

A routine traffic stop turned into a shocking crash after a drunk driver barreled straight into a parked police cruiser late Friday night, according to authorities. Bodycam and dashcam footage captured the terrifying moment the officer narrowly avoided being struck.

Police say the officer had just pulled over another vehicle on a dimly lit stretch of road when a speeding car, later confirmed to be driven by an intoxicated motorist, failed to slow down or move over. Instead, the driver plowed directly into the back of the patrol car, sending debris flying and triggering the cruiser’s airbags.

Miraculously, the officer—who was standing beside the stopped vehicle—jumped out of the way seconds before impact, avoiding what could have been a fatal hit. The driver, dazed and smelling strongly of alcohol, was pulled from the mangled vehicle and immediately taken into custody.

Witnesses described the crash as “violent” and said it looked like the officer “barely escaped with his life.”

The suspect now faces a long list of charges, including DUI, reckless driving, and failure to move over for emergency vehicles. Police say the incident is yet another reminder of the dangers officers face on the roadside—and the life-or-death importance of slowing down when approaching flashing lights.

Authorities confirmed the officer was checked at a hospital and released with minor injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
