Police Use PIT Maneuver to Stop Fleeing Driver

2 Min Read

A dangerous high-speed chase came to a dramatic end this week after officers executed a textbook PIT maneuver to stop a fleeing driver who refused to pull over.

According to police, the pursuit began when a patrol unit attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving. Instead of pulling over, the driver accelerated, weaving through traffic and reaching speeds that put everyone on the road at risk.

Dashcam and bodycam footage show officers coordinating closely as the chase continued for several miles. With traffic increasing and the suspect’s driving becoming more erratic, supervisors authorized a PIT maneuver — a controlled technique used to safely end pursuits.

Moments later, an officer pulled alongside the fleeing vehicle and made precise contact with the rear bumper. The suspect’s car spun out smoothly, coming to a stop on the shoulder as officers rushed in to secure the scene.

The driver was taken into custody without further incident and now faces multiple charges, including felony fleeing and reckless endangerment.

Police say the maneuver prevented what could have been a much more dangerous outcome and praised the officers involved for their quick, calculated response.
