APD Officer Involved Shooting Kills Violent Felon

Police bodycam footage released by the Austin Police Department shows the tense moments leading up to a deadly officer-involved shooting that left a wanted violent felon dead.

According to investigators, officers were attempting to arrest the suspect, who had a long history of assault and weapons charges. When he refused commands and reached for a firearm, officers opened fire, striking him multiple times.

Paramedics were called immediately, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.

APD officials say the incident is under standard investigation by the department’s Special Investigations Unit and Internal Affairs. They emphasized that the shooting was a direct response to an immediate threat — one that could have ended much worse had officers not acted quickly.
